Amazon Hikes Pay Again Minimum Wage Up 10

Amazon Hikes Pay Again, Minimum Wage Up 10%

Investment Targets Frontline Staff

Strikes Continue Despite Pay Rise

Amazon has announced another pay increase for its UK employees, following a 170 million pound investment. Starting wages will increase by up to 12 an hour, bringing the minimum salary for frontline workers to a 10% increase in just seven months.

The move comes amid a wave of similar pay rises by other major firms, as the UK grapples with a cost-of-living crisis. Amazon's latest increase follows a previous pay rise announced in October 2023.

Despite the pay increases, Amazon workers in the UK are planning further strike action. They are demanding better working conditions and a more permanent pay increase, rather than the current temporary measure.

Amazon said it is committed to supporting its employees and providing them with competitive pay and benefits. However, the ongoing strikes suggest that the company still has work to do to address the concerns of its workforce.

The latest pay rise will see Amazon's minimum salary increase to between 10.50 and 11.45 an hour, depending on location. The company said it will also be increasing pay for higher-level roles and providing a one-off bonus of up to 500 pounds for eligible employees.

Amazon's investment in pay rises is a significant development, but it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to quell the unrest among its UK workforce. The ongoing strikes are a reminder that the fight for fair pay and working conditions is far from over.
